"JINGLE DRESS" is part of a larger mural titled “HEALING MEDICINE”, seen at the Wetaskiwin Mall, Wetaskiwin Alberta. 2022

This mural is all about the different ways that we as indigenous people heal ourselves and our community. It features ceremonial healing, medicinal healing, healing through dance, and cultural healing.

In this image we see healing through dance, represented by the Jingle Dress Dancer. The jingle dress and dance is an Anishinaabe (Ojibwe) healing dance that originates with the Naotkamegwanning (Whitefish Bay) First Nation in Northern Ontario. The dresses have metal cones stitched into rows or elaborate designs that jingle when the dancer moves. The shape and sounds of the jingles are said to spread healing, whether dancing for one person, or a whole nation. Dancers do a side-step movement and normally stay in a line, not passing each other as they dance, as they do not want to break the healing circle.

Each print is Limited Edition (1 of 10), and comes framed, numbered and signed by artist Lance Cardinal of the Bigstone Cree Nation. Also includes letter of authenticity.
