National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

Royal Alberta Museum honoured the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation by featuring Lance Cardinal’s display of his miniature "St. Martin's Catholic Mission School." Lance gave an artist talk, and screened "Miniature," a short documentary that offers a glimpse into the creation of this moving piece.

“The Land We Share”

This 85 foot tall mural “The Land We Share” holds the Guinness book of world records for largest solar panel art in the world (2025). Designed by Lance Cardinal and created for the NEW Sunrise tower in downtown Edmonton. The mural celebrates the Chinese and First Nations people who live in the area and share the land.

Lance worked with the amazing design team at IKEA Edmonton to create the FIRST EVER Indigenous Family Showroom. This curated room features an authentic glimpse into the every day life of a First Nations family from the Treaty 6 territory. Designer and curator Lance Cardinal contributed to the interior/exterior design, language, and artifact acquirement.
“St Martins Residential School” Royal Alberta Museum

This miniature replica of the St Martins Residential School was recently inducted into permanat archives at the Royal Alberta Museum. It was created to honour the history of his grandparents who both went to the school.

The limited edition "Turtle Island Sneaker" celebrates Lance Cardinal’s collaboration with the Edmonton Oilers hockey team. The shoe was produced by Kunitz Shoes, featuring a 90s retro vibe, and a serialized collectible hockey card.

Lance was honoured to be the artist in residence at the St Mary School in Edmonton, Alberta. The students learned cultural teachings and contributed to a reconciliation project by painting little coloured squares that created a huge Alberta Rose Mosaic!

This 12 shoe collection features First Nations and Metis inspired designs, including a red boot with proceeds towards the families of MMIWG here in Canada. *These shoes are now in pernanent collection at the Royal Alberta Museum

Lance was honoured to work with IKEA Edmonton to create the iconic mural, “The Seven Sacred Grandfather Teachings”. This was the first of its kind in the world and included customized display materials and audio/visual enhancements.

Lance was honoured to design the Treaty 6 inspired gold, silver and bronze medals for the World Rugby Sevens Series held in Edmonton in 2021. The design,"Honouring Feathers" was created by Cree artist Lance Cardinal and represents the eagle feather, given to honour special moments and great successes.

Lance recently spent some time at the Telus World of Science lobby to design and paint a unique Treaty 6 land acknowledgement mural titled "amiskwacî-wâskahikan" meaning Beaver Hills House, which is the Cree name for Edmonton.

Indigenous Poeple’s Experience

Lance was so honoured to be hired as Indigenous Program Advisor for the new "Indigenous People's Experience" at Fort Edmonton Park, here in Edmonton. Lance advised on the content of the park, while also creating a program guide with over 150 indigenous events and activities.
“Healing Spirit”

This large scale painting sits at the main entry of the new Grande Prairie Hospital in Grande Prairie, Alberta. The painting “Healing Spirit” was created by Lance, and depicts Indigenous medicines and healing spirits used by the Indigenous people of Treaty 8 territory.

As a 2-Spirit artist, Lance was extremely honoured to create the FIRST mural EVER at MacEwan University. “Spirit Journey” is a 2-spirit representation mural at the entrance of the Centre for Sexual & Gender Diversity.

Lance was very honoured to create “Riverhawks” at the entrance to the ICONIC Edmonton RE/MAX Baseball Field stadium. This mural celebrates the beauty of the different Hawks who live by the river and their relationship with the land. It also acknowledges that the stadium is on Indigenous land.

Lance was excited to work with Avenue Living Communities to bring this mural, “Healing Medicine” (55'x 9'6") to Wetaskiwin Mall. It features Treaty 6 medicine ideals, including ceremonial, medicinal, traditional and cultural healing.

Lance Cardinal created “The Gathering” for the walls of the Abbotsfield Edmonton Public Library in the neighbourhood of Beverly. This image was created for EPL’s Mâmawôayâwin program, which supports the Indigenous services at EPL.

Lance was so honoured to lead year ONE of a youth legacy art piece at the 2022 Tee Pee Summit at Poundmakers Lodge. Everyone contributed one small triangle to create a beautiful teepee that spoke about what they will do as part of THEIR own reconcili-action.

This is one of 12 miniature replicas of a traditional Blackfoot tipi backrests measuring 8”X8”X11”. These were given as gifts to honoured guests from overseas to represent Treaty 6 territory.

Lance worked closely with Wildheart Collective, Park Streets Projects, and Inglewood Community Centre to create an Indigenous theme mural celebrating the beauty of the Cree/Metis moccasin vamp (Asesin). The community of Inglewood came together to help paint these large which are up on the walls at the Inglewood community garden.

Lance traveled to High Level, Tall Cree, Vermilion, Beaver First Nation and Rocky Lane to offer full day Zombie Camps! This Included zombie movement training, zombie make up, zombie movie history, and make-up design. and OF COURSE a zombie walk!!
Pow Wow Marionette Workshop

Lance traveled to his home community of Desmarais, Alberta, to present a pow wow marionette making and performance workshop. Participants designed their own marionette, learned to operate it, and performed a miniature Pow Wow for the school.
